A member of the Saints’ inaugural team in 1967, Whitsell played in New Orleans from 1967-69, appearing in all 42 games over three seasons. In 1967, he became the first member of the New Orleans franchise to play in the NFL's Pro Bowl game, after leading the league with 10 interceptions. He posted 19 interceptions, two touchdowns and two fumble recoveries over his Saints career.
