Originally drafted by New Orleans in the second round of the 1980 NFL Draft (41st overall), Waymer played in 149 games with 131 starts over his 10-year Saints career. His 149 games played with the franchise is the 12th-most in club history. He recorded 37 interceptions for 395 return yards and 15 fumble recoveries. His nine interceptions in 1986 was tied for the second-most in the league, behind only Ronnie Lott (10). He was elected to the Pro Bowl in 1987.
